Sonic Style

Due to the experimental side of this project, I want to be quite experimental in the sound design. The theme of our film is quite disturbing and this is something I would like to reflect, I want to try and do this with electronics. I have found inspiration from Aphex Twin and other similar artists. Aphex Twins music uses a lot of glitchy sounds especially to do with the drum beats. I think that this is something that I could try and use in my sound design. I don't want it to be overpowered with electronic sound the whole way through, I would prefer if it was more towards the closing scene, especially when Paul kills Ted.

Aphex Twin - Come to Daddy is a good example of the dark ambient and glitchy sounds that I would like to create for our film. I think these sounds work fantastically in creating a tone and reflecting what is being shown on screen, even the video for Come to Daddy works great with the song. Although I'm not a musician I know that it is possible to edit electronic sounds in a way so that it is dark and glitchy.

Another artist I'm inspired by is Bonobo, I think he is really good at creating a dark ambience and showing emotion through his music. He is someone that I also take ideas from. The music he creates almost sound as it was created for film.

Bonobo - Kiara is a great example of how Bonobo shows emotion through his music. I think the use of violins plays a massive part in creating this dark ambience that I'm looking to create. He also has elements of glitch to his music which I definitely think can be recreated.

The use of this electronic sound in my own sound design will play a massive part in showing Pauls anger. I would look to try and create a drum beat that will hit a crescendo when Paul hits Ted over the head with a cricket bat. I think that have subtle bit of electronic sound running through the hole film will also work well, perhaps using it to have running tone throughout the film. Sampling sounds and distorting them is something I could also think about doing.
